Brianne Jenner and Jocelyne Larocque led the way as Ottawa Charge rolled past New York Sirens 5-1 on Friday afternoon at Canadian Tire Centre. The win pushed Ottawa firmly into fourth place in the standings and dealt a blow to New York's postseason hopes.
The Charge came out with purpose from the opening faceoff and never let the Sirens get comfortable. Ottawa's veteran core set the tone, with Jenner continuing a strong season that has produced 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) through 28 games. Larocque, the steady blueliner, added to her seven assists on the year and helped Ottawa control play in all three zones.
Rebecca Leslie, second on the team with 22 points (13 goals, 9 assists), has given Ottawa a scoring depth that few teams in the league can match. The Charge's balance showed up in the 5-1 scoreline, a result that left little room for debate.
New York's Sarah Fillier, who leads the Sirens with 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists), managed one goal but received little help. The Sirens sit sixth at 34 points with 28 games played, five points behind Ottawa and running out of time.
Ottawa holds 39 points and occupies fourth place, two ahead of fifth-place Toronto Sceptres. With only two games left in the 30-game season, the Charge control their own fate. A strong finish could lock up a top-four seed before the final weekend.
The Charge host Boston Fleet on April 22 at Canadian Tire Centre. New York visits Toronto Sceptres on April 21 at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
