Boston Fleet defeated Vancouver Goldeneyes 2-0 at Tsongas Center on Tuesday in a game that showcased why the Fleet sit atop the PWHL standings. Boston's defensive structure was airtight, and the goaltending did the rest.
Aerin Frankel continues to put together one of the finest seasons in league history. Her .954 save percentage and 1.17 goals-against average through 21 starts are numbers that belong in a record book. She now has seven shutouts on the season.
The Fleet did not need a high-scoring affair to win. Jessie Eldridge's 24 points lead the team, and Susanna Tapani's 11 goals have come in timely spots all year. Boston wins with depth, and this game was no different.
Vancouver struggled to generate offense against Boston's structure. Tereza Vanisova leads the Goldeneyes with 15 goals in 30 games, but could not find the back of the net. Hannah Miller's 24 points and Sophie Jaques' 22 points from defense have not been enough to lift Vancouver out of seventh place.
Emerance Maschmeyer has shouldered a heavy workload in the Goldeneyes crease with a .915 save percentage and a 9-9 record through 23 starts. She kept Vancouver in the game for long stretches, but the two goals that beat her were enough for the Fleet.
The Goldeneyes remain at 27 points, tied with New York for sixth. Boston's 51 points and 18-4 record put them in a different tier from the rest of the league.
Vancouver needs to find a way to score against elite goaltending if they want to climb the standings. Boston, meanwhile, continues to look unbeatable at home.
Boston stays at Tsongas Center for their next game. Vancouver returns west to Pacific Coliseum.
