Vancouver Goldeneyes put together their most convincing offensive performance of the season in a 5-2 win over New York Sirens at Pacific Coliseum on Wednesday. Five different scoring sequences kept the Sirens on their heels all night.
The Goldeneyes came out with urgency and never let up. Tereza Vanisova leads the team with 15 goals in 30 games and has been Vancouver's most dangerous finisher all season. Hannah Miller has 24 points in 29 games, and Sarah Nurse has 23 points in 24 appearances.
Sophie Jaques ran the power play from the blue line with her usual precision. She has 22 points in 25 games, including 15 assists. Claire Thompson added 18 points from defense. Jenn Gardiner chipped in 18 points through 30 games.
The five-goal output was exactly what Vancouver needed. The Goldeneyes have been in too many tight games this season and have not always come out on the right side. A blowout win helps the confidence of a team fighting for its playoff life at 27 points in seventh.
New York had no answer defensively. Sarah Fillier did what she could with 29 points in 30 games, but the Sirens allowed too many chances going the other way. Kayle Osborne faced a heavy workload in goal.
The Sirens are tied with Vancouver at 27 points but hold a game in hand. Both clubs are chasing fifth-place Toronto, which sits four points ahead.
This was a statement game for the Goldeneyes at home. Whether they can carry this momentum into the final weeks will determine their playoff fate.
Vancouver stays home at Pacific Coliseum. New York returns to Northwell Health Ice Center.
